The Volvo Group is planning a large-scale, fossil-free and sustainable battery cell production facility in Mariestad.
According to the Volvo Group, the factory is expected to employ around 3,000 people once full production is reached after 2030. The batteries will serve multiple product segments in the Volvo Group's areas - trucks, buses, construction equipment as well as marine and industrial applications.
The location was carefully selected to access fossil-free electricity, availability of process and cooling water, suitable land and infrastructure, and the strong industrial competence of the region.
